Positano

POSITANO

Positano is one of the most famous towns on the Amalfi Coast, known for its colorful houses cascading down steep cliffs to the turquoise sea.
Once a humble fishing village, it became a hotspot for artists and writers in the 20th century and is now a world-famous tourist destination.
The town’s history stretches back to Roman times, with evidence like the ancient Villa Romana, a luxurious Roman villa now beneath the Church of Santa Maria Assunta. The church, with its beautiful dome of colorful tiles, is a key landmark and home to a 13th-century Byzantine icon of the Black Madonna.
Positano’s beaches are a major attraction. Spiaggia Grande is the lively main beach, while Fornillo Beach offers a quieter, more relaxed vibe. The nearby Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) is a stunning hiking trail that offers breathtaking views of the coastline.
The town is also known for its boutique shops selling handmade sandals, linen clothing, and ceramics.
